TMFFA-30T is a 30 t regenerative, hydraulically tilted reverberatory furnace we designed for melting aluminium scrap and ingots. Heat reaches the metal from the flame in the combustion space above the bath and by radiation from the hot roof and walls. For pouring, the furnace tilts hydraulically about the tap-out, so the pouring point does not move and the furnace can feed a casting line directly.
Regenerative firing
The furnace has a pair of regenerative burners (7,200 kW each) that fire in turn: while one fires, the flue gas passes through the ceramic ball bed of the other and leaves its heat there; then the direction changes and combustion air arrives preheated. Switching is done by our own 4-way rotary-flap reversing valve with a cast body. The combustion air fan and the exhaust fan sit on the roof; pilot burners have their own blower and flames are monitored by UV cells. Each burner has its own gas train (ball valve, solenoid valves, pressure switches).
Door and hood
The charging door lifts vertically in a portal by a hydraulic cylinder and is pressed onto the opening by clamping cylinders when closed. A hood above the door carries the flue gas from the exhaust fan to the stack. The sill is level with the tap-out, so charging and skimming with a forklift is easy.
Tilting and pouring
The tilting axis is at the tap-out; the furnace is tilted by hydraulic cylinders at the rear. The hydraulic unit serves tilting, door lifting and door clamping; pipes run in a covered channel above floor level. The tap-out cover is opened by a pneumatic cylinder, keeping personnel clear of its path.
Refractory and measurement
The bath is lined with a dense castable hot face resistant to aluminium, backed by insulating castable and calcium silicate board; the roof is carried by hanger bricks and the burner ports use high-alumina burner blocks. Metal temperature is measured by a movable immersion thermocouple; the roof has temperature and pressure measurement, and the regenerators have ball-bed temperature and pressure measurement.
