MMS Excel E TPX851E is a carbon-bonded silicon carbide (SiC) spouted basin crucible for melting and holding aluminium. It holds 752 kg of aluminium and is used in tilting melting furnaces (pouring spout on the crucible). A multi-phase glaze protects against oxidation and the high thermal conductivity gives fast melting.

First use: pre-heat the empty crucible on full power to about 900 °C (bright red) and hold for 30 minutes to condition the glaze; then charge and set the furnace to operating temperature. Install the crucible on a stand of the same material, leaving an expansion gap to the furnace lining.
