CHFFA-07-E is a stationary, electrically heated crucible holding furnace for 635 kg of aluminium. It is designed to keep molten aluminium at casting temperature next to a high-pressure die casting (HPDC) machine; metal is taken from the crucible by ladle or casting robot. The furnace is designed from the crucible outwards: this model is built around a Morgan Excel E BX262E crucible without spout.
Body convertible to tilting
The E series shares its chamber and body with our tilting melting furnaces (TMFFA). The tilting connection points are kept on the body, so the same body can later be converted into a tilting furnace. The front wall carries no heating elements; burner and flue positions for a gas-fired version are reserved on this wall.
Heating layout: 5 walls, 3 tiers
The chamber is hexagonal; the five walls other than the front carry 3 tiers of heating blocks, 15 blocks × 2.8 kW in total. Each tier is one phase, joined in star, so the bottom, middle and top of the crucible heat evenly.
Easy maintenance
Block-to-block links are flexible bars outside the insulation; a failed block is replaced on its own without dismantling the insulation. The body is bolted, so parts can be removed and refitted.
Metal take-off and options
In the standard model metal is taken by ladle with the main lid opened. As an option a Ø250 mm ladle port with a rear-hinged port lid can be added to the main lid; the main lid then stays closed and holding loss drops by about half. The port lid can be manual or pneumatic; a level port and a hydraulic main lid are also available as options.
Control
The furnace is run from a free-standing control panel beside it, with PLC / operator panel and thyristor power control. A spill tray in front of the furnace protects against crucible failure.
