CAFFA-48-G Cable Aging Furnace – Tunnel Type, 48 Drums

Prices are prepared per project according to capacity, energy type and delivery terms.

CAFFA-48-G is a gas-fired, tunnel-type, double-door aging furnace we designed for aging aluminium alloy conductor wire and cable on drums. One batch holds 48 drums: they are arranged on the rack car in 2 rows × 12 bays × 2 levels; each drum position takes a Ø630 × 475 mm drum. The master model of the series is a tunnel aging furnace we built and commissioned ourselves, working in cable production (72 drums); the series is derived from it by length and number of levels.

Tunnel-type, double-door operation

The furnace has a door at each end and a car station in front of each door. When a batch is finished both doors open together: the entry car brings the new load in while the aged batch moves out to the station on the exit side. Loading and unloading happen at opposite ends; while one batch is in the furnace the next is prepared at the entry station, so the furnace does not stand empty.

Chain-driven cars

The rack cars run on rails set into the floor. Each side has its own geared drive unit and chain haulage, with chain tensioning units inside the furnace. The end plates of the cars seal against the lower gasket of the door opening.

Vertical-lift doors

The doors are lifted vertically by chain from geared drives on the door towers; the weight is balanced by a counterweight on a moving pulley. On the way down a wedge-and-roller arrangement presses the door onto the opening gasket. The tower drives are inside folded sheet-metal hoods.

Heating and air circulation

The furnace is heated by a natural-gas package burner; the gas train connects to the burner on the platform above the furnace. The circulation fan on the roof drives hot air along the tunnel between the drums. The roof carries explosion relief panels; temperature is measured by zone thermocouples, with an independent limit thermocouple.

Platform and controls

The fan, burner and gas train are reached for maintenance from the railed service platform on the side; access is by caged ladders at both ends. The control panel is mounted on the furnace wall; doors, cars and the furnace cycle are run from a PLC with a touch operator panel.

Series

The CAFFA series has five models by number of drums: two-level CAFFA-40-G and CAFFA-48-G, three-level CAFFA-60-G and CAFFA-72-G, and four-level CAFFA-96-G. The number in the model name is the number of drum positions in the furnace.

We manufacture the furnace together with the rack cars, rails, haulage units, platform, gas train and control panel, and install and commission it on site. Heating power and cycle time are set at quotation stage for your alloy and drum load.
