TRMFFA-15T is a gas-fired, hydraulically tilting rotary melting furnace for 15 tonnes of liquid aluminium per charge. It melts scrap, swarf, dross and ingot by tumbling the charge in a rotating drum; liquid metal is poured from the mouth into a ladle or launder by tilting the drum.
Capacity definition: in the rest position (mouth ≈18° up) the liquid level is ≈220 mm below the mouth lip; 15 t is the liquid aluminium up to that level. Filled to the lip it holds ≈17.7 t. Capacity is calculated from the actual volume of the refractory cavity.
Drum and drive
The drum runs on two tyres over flanged rollers; a fixed rear bearing takes the axial thrust. It is turned through a bolted chain wheel and pinion by a geared motor with frequency inverter for adjustable speed.
Tilting and door
The cradle tilts up to 45° about a front pivot with two hydraulic cylinders and rests on supports at standstill. The door opens and swings aside hydraulically; a door clamping cylinder presses it against the mouth. A dross skimmer on the door holds back dross at the mouth during pouring.
Combustion system
A natural-gas process burner sits in the door. The gas safety train uses Kromschröder components (filter, regulator, safety valves, ratio regulator, pressure switches); flame supervision is by a BCU in the ignition box on the door. The combustion air fan sits on the door tilting frame, with a single rotary joint in the air line.
Refractory and body
Three-layer refractory: a working lining not wetted by aluminium and two insulation layers. Colours follow surface temperature: hot zones carbon black, drum aluminium paint, frames and units in the company palette. Joints are bolted wherever possible.
Control
The furnace is run by a PLC with touch-screen operator panel in a separate electrical cabinet. Cylinder end positions, tilt angle, rest position and hydraulic pressure are monitored by sensors, and movements are interlocked (e.g. the skimmer cannot move unless the door is swung aside).
